Royal Forestry Society Competition

RWS are giving schools who provide woodland based outdoor learning in Wales the opportunity to compete for a major prize! The Royal Forestry Society (RFS ) is holding its Excellence in Forestry Awards 2015 across Wales. The awards include a Schools category which is free to enter for educational organisations from nursery to 19. There is a £1000 top prize and a £500 silver prize.

Schools do not need to have their own woodlands. The category is specifically looking for projects  that increase the understanding and appreciation among young people of the environmental, social and economic potential of trees, woodlands and forests and of the link between trees and everyday wood products.

Projects might include:
• practical improvements to trees and woodlands on schools grounds or in the local community
• a programme of learning in a woodland or forest environment e.g. Forest School or forest industry setting
• a classroom based study of trees, woods, forests and/or the forest industry
The closing date for entries is noon on Friday 6 March 2015. Full details, together with entry forms in Welsh and English are available at
